Ever look at someone super successful and think to yourself, “How did they get there?” What are the morning habits of successful people. Success, whether you define it as professional, emotional, or anything in between, happens slowly. I define success as having ownership of time and options and not totally confined to a job title, salary, or prestige. Here, I am going to share the secret behind success (however you want to define it) and creating morning habits that can change your life.
Let’s begin by stating, in life, the big positive shifts do not happen in one monumental singular event, it is the compound effect of mini habits that create a positive shift. The process of creating and keeping a promise you set for yourself, not only creates momentum, but it is the foundation for confidence. Keeping your promises result in trust. When you trust in yourself, you gain confidence.
Next let’s chat control. There are so many things in life that we can not control. The one thing we can have one hundred percent control over is our own reaction to what life throws our way. Often when we look at all the things we have to accomplish, we can get overwhelmed super easily. That is where keeping it simple and keeping morning habits simple will result in longevity. As a busy mom and entrepreneur, I used to live in a constant reactionary state. I did not pull any intentionality into my days, I didn’t think I had time. Ironically, in order to get the time, I needed to become intentional and “design” time.
You may ask, ok, so what do I need to do. What are the “steps”? This is where you come in because friends, the juicy little secret is, you decide.
It is not the morning habits of that venture capitalist that will get you to where you want to go. It is not the morning habit of your best friend, spouse, or personal trainer. The morning habits of others are great to use as a reference but you need to find something that works FOR YOU.
How do you decide what habits are best for you? Glad you asked. First, healthy morning habits mean they are enjoyable and sustainable. Nothing substantial is going to come out of setting a goal that you’re unable to sustain long term. When creating your morning habits, use these questions as a guideline.
Do you want your day to be super productive? Are their certain times during the day that you would like blocked off for a specific activity? Decide on how you want your day to look, then make a note. In fact, jot down the top three things you would like to accomplish the night before your day begins. Having a clear idea what you would like your morning habits to look like will give you a road map. Just like if you were getting in a car and traveling somewhere new – you would need directions. This will help.
What you experience visually plays a huge part in how you experience life. Create the space where you wake up conducive to igniting those emotions you want to feel when you first wake up in the morning. Is there a photo that brings you a sense of calmness and joy? Is there an event that you have reminding you to get up and get moving? Create your area aesthetically so it benefits your long term wellness.
Yes, morning habits of successful people include all of your senses, including taste. Fueling your body with the right food is huge. Gut health is the foundation to overall wellness and plays a huge part in mental health. Did you know that 90% of serotonin is made in the gut? Gut health is absolutely huge. Be intentional.
The words you say are insanely important. Especially the words you use and think when you are thinking about yourself. Choose wisely. How do you want to feel about yourself? One of the most important healthy morning habits to consider is choosing an affirmation to say when you are looking at yourself in the mirror each morning. This creates neuropathways and will literally change the way blood flows in your brain and will start to create those connections so these words become your reality. Write it on a post-it or dry erase marker on your bathroom mirror so you see it when you see yourself. Connect those words with the physical image of yourself. Visualize who you want to become. Choose loving words. It is life changing.
So in conclusion, when life throws a ton your way and you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed or something feels “off”, always go back to the morning. Your healthy morning habits will intentionality in your days is your intentionality in your life.
